In the 1970s this building was home to New Sound Gospel Records & Tapes, owned by Mr. Lee Johnson. To honor the history of the shop and the neighborhood, we kept the name, restored the old penny tile floors, mounted the original sign (the one you see in the picture), and play gospel and soul music.

Now we proudly roast our own coffee and offer up a wide selection of quality teas. We have a selection of fresh and delicious food and snacks from Trini's Tasty Pastries including cinnamon rolls, biscuits, breakfast sandwiches, paninis, soup, and more.

Our Story

We are the Follett family - Andrew, Hannah, Caleb, Evelyn, Micah, and Amelia. We have lived in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago since 2021. After living in Oak Park for 12 years, we decided to move to Austin to be closer to our church, school, and work. And we have loved being a part of the community - the people, history, and energy!

A few years ago, we bought a small storefront shop walking distance from our house. The building had been abandoned for 20 years and was nothing more than a shell - no power, water, or plumbing - just bricks and windows (plus some rats and a dusty old garage). We didn’t have any clear vision for the property, but the idea of a small cafe or coffee shop came up again and again in conversation with neighbors and friends. They wanted a place in the neighborhood to meet and connect with others.

With the help of MANY people using their talents and expertise, here we are! This is our first cafe, and more than likely our last. It’s not a corporate franchise, it’s a family project, and we’re excited to have the cafe be a vehicle for a more connected, thriving community.
